Slim Down – But First, Start to Notice
When your trousers get a little tight or a friendly sales assistant advises that you need a bigger dress size, it’s probably time you considered slimming down a little. But how did it all happen? One minute you look fine and the next you find airplane seats seem to have become even smaller. Is it really such a surprise? Don’t you look in the mirror in the morning? You do! Well, who’s been looking back out at you all these mornings, a relative? Have you been in denial or was it that you just didn’t want to notice? Now that you’ve left things for a bit too long you’re going to have to make a major effort to get back into shape. But it needn’t have come to this.
When we start not to ‘notice’ is when the trouble starts. Blind routine begins to mask what is really happening in our lives. We switch on our autopilot because it makes life so much easier. We develop new behaviors that soon become part of who we are. We press on regardless, and are oblivious of the consequences.
Only when we start to ‘notice’ and to develop our self-awareness can we keep an accurate check on our behaviors. This is a constant process. It’s not something that can be switched on and off. To be proficient you have to practice until it becomes second nature. It’s part of the process of taking control of your life. It’s about giving yourself ‘proper attention’ and exercising self-responsibility.
When you start to search for the best way to lose weight and contemplate weight loss tips that will help you to slim down, don’t be taken in too readily by fast weight loss advice, weight loss pills or fat loss diets. Consider what needs to change. You need to recognise your behaviors and learn new habits. Only then will you be able to achieve long-term weight loss and a more balanced life.
